13:00 - Madeira Real Flight Event
Dear Members,
Madeira is an autonomous island (Portuguese Territory). It is a very popular touristic resort with a near perfect climate, good wine, incredible scenery and quality surfing. Sounds like a paradise, but prepare yourself for a turbulent approach and landing on the island's partially over-the-water runway.

[center]The airport was once infamous for its short runway which, surrounded by high mountains and the ocean, made it very tricky landing for even the most experienced pilots. However, it's innovative solution allowed Funchal to receive the [i]"Outstanding Structure Award in 2004"[/i], although it is still considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world.
Major airlines fly and land here daily, pilots and passengers have to experience heavy turbulence during approach and landing. Sometimes, high winds and storms causes this airport to close to jet liners during winter months.
The airport itself is extremely modern and well kept, which any visitor deserves after this extreme approach and landing.
